The Foresters Friendly Society 50+ Life Cover policy allows you to name a beneficiary, if you so wish, who can receive up to £5,000 from the policy immediately, without having to wait for your estate to be sorted out. Your loved ones could use the cash lump sum towards funeral costs or to pay for things like outstanding utility or credit card bills that may need to be settled straight away.
The amount payable on death will form part of your estate unless written in Trust and inheritance tax may be payable. You should remember that tax benefits may change and their value will depend on your individual circumstances. Inflation will reduce what you can buy in the future.
Your policy is also a simple way to leave a cash lump sum to your grandchildren – maybe to help with their education or to buy something special to remember you by.

A helping hand with funeral costs
Back in 1997, the cost of a standard cremation or burial (excluding burial plot) was £1,230. By 2007 this had increased to £2,269* - that’s almost double!
50+ Life Cover is not a funeral plan and therefore doesn’t guarantee to cover all your funeral costs – but with prices definitely on the rise, it could save your family the burden of having to pay them all.

Guaranteed sums assured after two years
The Forester’s Friendly Society 50+ Life Cover policy gives you an easy low cost way to leave your loved ones a guaranteed cash lump sum to help towards the cost of your funeral expenses or to pay outstanding bills. Or you could use it to leave your grandchildren a gift to remember you by.
Two exclusive offers for NHS Pension members
Premiums start from as little as £10 a month and are guaranteed never to go up. What’s more through Club Together, Forester’s are offering you an enhanced birthday gift of up to £45* of M&S vouchers exclusively for NHS Pension members.
Also, whereas the policy is normally available to UK residents aged 50-80, NHS pension members are being offered guaranteed acceptance until age 85 without any need for a medical and no awkward health questions to answer.

Reader review: Trevor gets answers for you
Club Together reader Trevor Vaughan met with Kevin Dann, Chief Executive of Foresters Friendly Society to ask the important questions when it comes to life cover

Trevor Vaughan: Need to Know…
- I’m a Club Together reader
- I’m busy doing charity work and volunteering with the St John’s Ambulance Service
- If I were invisible for a day I’d go for a walk trough the Palace of Westminster to see what goes on behind closed doors.
Trevor: What is the Foresters 50+ Life Cover product and what does it cover?
Kevin: Foresters 50+ Life Cover is a whole of life insurance policy that provides a guaranteed lump sum cash payout to your loved ones after your death. This isn’t about benefitting you, but it is about benefitting those you leave behind. It provides financial support for your dependents – whether it’s to leave a cash sum for your children or grandchildren, to help towards covering funeral expenses or to assist with paying off any debt you may leave. This is a very simple policy whereby as long as you’re a UK resident and aged between 50-85 you are guaranteed to be accepted.
Trevor: Who is Foresters Friendly Society and why should I trust you?
Kevin: Foresters Friendly Society is a Mutual society. We celebrated our 75th anniversary last year. Friendly societies in general have their foundations in members coming together and supporting one another in times of need. The history of Foresters Friendly Society predates the welfare state so we have a long and trusted history of assisting members when they need us most. We are owned by our members for our members. We have no shareholders which means that there are no dividends to pay to them. Because of this, all of the profits we generate as a business are ploughed straight back into benefits for our members.
Trevor: What are the benefits of having Life Cover with Foresters Friendly Society, rather than using another financial services company?
Kevin: As well as access to a simple, straightforward life insurance product, when you take out a policy with Foresters Friendly Society, you will automatically become a member of the Society. The benefits of membership include (amongst others):
- Substantial savings and discounts from many of the UK’s top brand names – including John Le wis, B&Q, Thomas Cook, and Evans Cycles.
- Free telephone counselling services to help with stress, debt and bereavement matters.
- Free legal advice
- Free home emergency assistance
- Free identity theft support.
- Discounted Will writing services
- Access to discretionary financial grants for assistance with higher education, for children of parents who either die or become incapacitated and for other life stages
- Access to our online social networking community – Foresters Friends (www.forestersfriends.co.uk).
- You will receive our quarterly member magazine ‘The Forester’ which includes 32 pages of relevant, useful editorial content on financial matters, general news and helpful hints and tips on how to maximise your money.
Trevor: Is a medical required?
Kevin: No, no medical is required. As long as you are between 50 and 85 you are guaranteed to be accepted.
Trevor: Will my premiums rise as I get older?
Kevin: No. The monthly premium you pay is fixed at the outset. This means you have the peace of mind of knowing exactly how much your Direct Debit payment will be and when it will be taken, allowing you to budget for other household and family expenses easily.
Trevor: How is the payout at the end of the policy calculated?
Kevin: The payout is calculated by taking into account the basic sum assured (as identified when you take out the policy), plus any annual bonuses that have been added during the duration of the policy and the final bonus if this has been added depending on the performance of the With Profits Fund at the time of your death.
What’s also worth noting here is that you can name a beneficiary to receive up to £5000 following your death without having t wait for probate (which can often delay your estate, and finances, being sorted at the time your loved ones need it most). This would mean that your beneficiary could us the cash lump sum from your 50+ Life Cover policy to help towards funeral expenses or to pay the outstanding bills immediately.
Trevor: What’s the usual age limit for the 50+ Life Cover product?
Kevin: Usually our policy age limit is 80 but we’re pleased to be able to announce that for Club Together readers we can exclusively extend the age limit up to 85 for the majority of cases.
Trevor: What else will you be offering exclusively to Club Together members?
Kevin: We have a great offer exclusively for Club Together readers. As well as extending the age limit of the policy for certain readers, each sale will be incentivised with £20 Marks & Spencer vouchers – increasing to £45 if you and your partner take out a policy at the same time.
Trevor: Is there any written information about the Foresters 50+ Life Cover Product?
Kevin: Yes, a full product pack will be sent to you when you enquire further about the 50+ Life Cover policy. This pack includes the Key Features document which should be read carefully. All the product information is available in large print, Braille and audio formats to members should they request it.
